<image:title>Rosacea - Rosacea is a skin condition that causes red patches on the skin & an increased appearance of blood vessels due to increased blood flow to the surface of the skin. It most commonly affects the face, in particular the nose and cheeks. For those affected by rosacea, it can cause some pain and itchiness as well as small red or white bumps alongside general irritation. It can occur on or around the eyes as well leaving the eyes dry, irritated and in some cases swollen. There are various things that can trigger Rosacea such as age, sunlight, hormonal changes, stress, extreme weather conditions, alcohol, and spicy food. The main cause of Rosacea can be genetics or environmental factors but it is often not known. Rosacea can be prevented by avoiding these triggers, especially sunlight and extreme stress, and weather conditions. It is also advised to avoid anything that can irritate the skin, strong chemical products or pore-clogging cosmetics, and any excessive, harsh rubbing on the skin. Medication can be prescribed for Rosacea or you can see a skin specialist for an advised course of treatment. Treatment for Rosacea often starts gently so as not to further aggravate the skin.</image:title>

<image:title>Acne</image:title>
<image:caption>Acne is very common and affects most people at some point, it can occur on the face, chest, back and shoulders. It looks like small or large red bumps on the skin which can be painful to the touch and sometimes filled with pus. Acne occurs when sebum is unable to leave the skin because a hair follicle is blocked. This may result in growth of bacteria below the surface of the skin. Inflammation can occur, and a rupture of an inflamed area can lead to scarring. Acne can occur due to age, stress, diet, hormones and hormonal changes, a buildup of dead skin cells, family history of acne, too many greasy or oily products coming into contact with the skin, excess sebum and/or oil production or too much friction. The right skin care regime, good skin protection and a healthy lifestyle with plenty of rest, water and a balanced diet can all help improve acne. Whilst there is no cure for acne, it is possible to control it with the right treatment. This treatment won’t be the same for everyone, treatment depends on what causes your acne, what types of spots or congestion your acne is causing and what your skin is like and responds to. At The Cotswold Skin Clinic I offer 2 skincare options which utilise different ingredients and technologies. Obagi CLENZIderm M.D Systems contains a patented, soluble form of 5% benzoyl peroxide which have been clinically proven to penetrate the follicles for effective reduction of acne. Whereas Meder Eu-Seb uses Prebiotic therapy, a new approach to the treatment of acne and skin inflammation.</image:caption>

<image:title>Excessive Sweating - Excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis, is when the body produces sweat when it is not in a warm environment. Sweating is natural to keep the body cool when in a hot environment or after exercise. Excessive sweating can be caused by genetics, hormonal changes during menopause, side effects of medication, infections, anxiety or diabetes. You can reduce symptoms by using a good anti perspirant, medicated creams which you can obtain from your GP to reduce sweating, relaxation methods including meditation and yoga if it is due to anxiety . For more extreme cases or those who find it particularly hard to control you can get botox injections in to the sweat glands to block them from releasing sweat.</image:title>

<image:title>Enlarged Pores</image:title>
<image:caption>Ideally, we would all like to have skin that’s smooth, firm, pliable, and nicely hydrated, with small, nearly-invisible pores. But some of us just have large pores – or, at least, pores that are much more visible than we’d like them to be and which contribute to making our skin look uneven in tone. Obviously, you can’t get rid of your pores, but you can keep them clean and shrink them temporarily to make them less obvious. Unfortunately, pores tend to get bigger with age, but of course, there are things you can do. Firstly skincare — and I’d look for one particular ingredient: salicylic acid. This is an ingredient that can dissolve in oil, allowing it to weasel its way down into the pores and clean them out from the inside. The other ingredient that is really good for pores is retinol, which strengthens the skin. You could also have something like a salicylic acid skin peel because that will really get deep down into the pores and muck them out. You could have Botox injected in your pores. This sounds mad, but if it’s done really superficially in the nose, in the forehead, and across the skin, it reduces the oiliness of the skin, which will obviously have a knock-on effect on what the pores are producing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Eye Area - The eyes are a common area of concern in skincare. Often associated with signs of aging, the eyes are also an area where people tend to focus their attention. Fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, or tired-looking eyes are consequently a high priority for many people. Although fine lines and wrinkles are a sign of aging skin, it is not uncommon for these to appear around the eye area first, this is due to the skin around the eye being very thin. The skin around the eyes also does not have the same type of oil-secreting glands in the skin around the eye which is why it is very common for individuals to experience dry skin around the eye more than anywhere else on the face or body. Other causes for fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles around the eyes are: sun damage, smiling, lack of sleep & sleeping position as well as smoking and squinting. The eye area is traditionally the hardest to treat, but there have been a lot of advances in recent years. The best prevention is again is using a daily SPF, general skincare, a well balanced diet, not smoking, enusring adequate sleep & wearing sunglasses to prevent squinting. If you are concerned about the eye area, please get in touch as a face-to-face consultation is the best way to assess which treatments will be mores suitable.</image:title>

<image:title>Pregnancy/Breastfeeding - Pregnancy can be magical, but it can also be tough on your body. The pregnancy ‘glow’ is not always realistic & we need to be gentle on ourselves and rest if our body is asking for it. Be patient and ready to adapt as your skin can change each trimester . During pregnancy and breastfeeing we need to consider what ingredients should be avoided and equally how we can continue to involve treatments, especailly for those who still crave their normal appointments. For breakouts, calm skin with topical probiotics and vitamin B in a form of niacinamide, if your skin’s dry and dehydrated then nourish it with gentle oils and baumes. Gentle is the name of the game so give vitamin A, retinols, and AHAs and BHAs acids the boot for now. And for an extra pamper, we offer several pregnancy & breastfeeding safe technologies & facials</image:title>
